Reader Feedback on "Into the Deep"
Oh, dissociative disorder is not all that controversial! And I'm not exactly leaping; merely POSITING. One must posit now and then to get anywhere. Me, the interviewer. The author was more careful and considerate. Yes, that Linda Thompson.

I haven't read the book, so this is just based on my impressions of the analysis described in the interview. It's pretty, well, dangerous to psychoanalyze a deceased person based on anecdotes and speculation alone. The most disturbing tangent in this interview was the jump from suspecting sexual abuse to positing possible Dissociate Identity Disorder, a diagnosis that is very controversial in the psychiatric community. That's quite a leap between one difficult-to-prove theory to another. The book sounds like a good read, but I'm very curious about what research was executed to reach these questions, and how carefully these ideas were phrased.
