Five Albums You Should Be Listening To Right Now
In celebration of Bonnaroo 2011, five great records chosen by Bonnaroo organizer Kerry Black.
Every two weeks, titans of the mediasphere give Hooksexup their music recommendations. This week: Kerry Black, of Superfly Productions. Superfly co-created the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival; Bonnaroo 2011 starts this Thursday.
1. Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., It's a Corporate World
New-school Hall & Oates? Possibly so, given their excellent songwriting skills. Those are tempered with an indie-rock sensibility and a fantastic cover of Gil Scott-Heron's "Almost Lost Detroit."
Listen: “Vocal Chords”
MP3
2. Foster The People, Torches
A guilty pleasure of sorts. Though everyone loves the pop of "Pumped Up Kicks," I am stuck on the dance track "Houdini."
Listen: “Houdini”
MP3
3. Bob Seger, Mongrel
I just recently stumbled upon this classic rock gem. Just get it, whatever you might think of his later work.
Listen: “Evil Edna”
MP3
4. Big K.R.I.T., K.R.I.T. Wuz Here
There is little better party music then well done Southern bounce. It's been a while since the style's heyday, but this brings me back to New Orleans in the late '90s.
Listen: “Return of 4Eva”
MP3
5. Kvelertak, Kvelertak
I just call them "The Truth." Pure metal genius, and everything you want them to be live.
Listen: “Fossegrim”
MP3
