Four Loko drops caffeine from its list of ingredients

Four Loko parent company Phusion Projects announced today that it's removing caffeine from the beverage, along with other substances apparently in the drink like guarana and taurine.

In their press release, Phusion still maintains that the combination of alcohol and caffeine is completely safe because, "If it were unsafe, popular drinks like rum and colas or Irish coffees that have been consumed safely and responsibly for years would face the same scrutiny that our products have recently faced."

True! Even though one Four Loko contains much more caffeine, the alcoholic content of four beers and tastes like watermelon jolly ranchers. Also, shut up.

The compromise to remove caffeine was made after the Loko ban in New York state -- a concession made to improve their reputation and present themselves as team players.

It's still going to be hard to dampen the demand for this thing. Four Loko prohibition might drive young people to get it over state lines, not to mention bathtub Loko that's already being cooked up. (Read: 5-hour energy + Loko). Anything in the name of ironic parties.

What's next, a ban on booze? We could call it prohibition. Oh, wait. That's already been tried.

Banned in Michigan as well, which is literally the only reason I was tempted to buy a couple of cans last night. (Apparently, retailers have 30 days to remove it from their shelves. Stock up, kiddies! 2/$5!)
