Mel Gibson booted from The Hangover 2, allegedly at the urging of Zach Galifianakis
By Peter SmithOctober 22nd, 2010, 5:00 pmComments (8)We previously reported that walking meltdown Mel Gibson would fill, in The Hangover 2, the "wacky disgraced celebrity cameo" spot filled by Mike Tyson in the original film. Now, director Todd Phillips has announced that Gibson has been cut after protests from members of his cast and crew.
Phillips didn't specify who he was talking about, but on a recent episode of the podcast Comedy Death-Ray Radio, Zach Galifianakis made a cryptic reference to being "in a deep protest right now with a movie I’m working on, up in arms about something." Galifianakis apparently has some clout, though over at Salon, blogger Matt Zoller Seitz calls hypocrisy on a Hollywood that refuses to work with Gibson but thinks a convicted rapist like Mike Tyson is a riot. (I see a distinction between the two, but Seitz may have a point.) Stepping in to replace Gibson is the decidedly less controversial Liam Neeson. The Hangover 2 will come out in May 2011.

Good For Zach! I have no interest in giving this ego-manical A-wipe...as a woman...and half Jew!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhh....That's for you Mel! The fat lady just sung!
umm..ok.
In two years, Mel will be forgiven and life will move on. If anything is for certain, it's the memory of sheep following stories like this.
I don't see much distinction between including Gibson or Tyson in terms of notoriety. I would guess the tipping point might be personal... perhaps it was just harder to work with Gibson.
Personally I think it would be funnier if they took a squeaky-clean, prim and proper actor and cast him/her as a freakazoid nutjob version of themself.
Us Jews are not forgiving people...until he makes us millions of dollars again...then all will be forgotten.
Says the FAKE Jew..
You know your career and life have gone to shit when a hack like Zach gets you bumped off a shitty movie sequel.
No, there's not much difference between Tyson and Gibson, but isn't The Hangover now one of the best selling comedies ever? My guess is the studio wants to keep their principals happy and if getting Mel Gibson booted from it would make them happy, he's gone. Besides, Ari Emanuel (yup, brother of Rahm) HAAAAAAATES Gibson and has done everything he can to get him blackballed from the industry once the anti-semitic comments from his DUI came out. Ari is the head of WME, William Morris Endeavor, one of the most powerful talent agencies in Hollywood. Oh, and once the latest with Oksana came out, he was dropped immediately from WME's roster. So yes, people can make comebacks in Hollywood, but my guess is his will be hard come by and take a good long time. He's pissed off a lot of the wrong people.
You've hit the ball out the park! Icnredbeil!
