From the "news I never expected to be writing up" department comes this: Adam Yauch, a.k.a. MCA of the Beastie Boys, is directing a short-format comedy semi-sequel to that band's famous 1986 video "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party!)" starring Elijah Wood as Ad-Rock, Seth Rogen as Mike D, and Danny McBride as MCA. I'm not seeing a lot of physical resemblance on any of those (McBride, for one, is a decade older than MCA was at the time), but it's a pretty choice lineup, especially when you add Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, and Jack Black.

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure this whole thing isn't an elaborate joke, given the Boys' predilection for same, as well as the fact that they've basically disowned the song (from Wikipedia: "Mike D commented that '...there were tons of guys singing along to Fight for Your Right who were oblivious to the fact it was a total goof on them.' The group has not performed the song live since 1987.") Still, pretty awesome. The short will debut at this year's Sundance Film Festival in January. (So will a Julia Stiles short called Sexting. I'm intrigued.)

UPDATE: Here's a pic of the three faux-Beasties in costume. McBride looks characteristically hilarious as MCA.

I'm pretty tired of all of those people. Their schtick ran out a couple of years ago.

Um, no.

Julia Stiles, however, I could watch reading the labels off soup cans.
