Will Ferrell announces Anchorman sequel

anchorman

Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, and Paul Rudd probably just made a lot of money. Like, a lot of money. Like, enough to buy elevators for their cars, Mitt Romney-style.

On tonight's Conan (video below), Ferrell — in character as Ron Burgundy, San Diego's greatest newscaster — announced that Paramount has green-lit a sequel to Anchorman, the beloved 2004 comedy, with Adam McKay returning to direct. All the male leads are on board; no word yet on whether Christina Applegate will reprise her role of Veronica Corningstone.

The studio had previously rejected the follow-up because of its massive price tag. Anchorman made $90 million at the box office, but Ferrell, Carell, and Rudd commanded lower salaries back then. It's unknown why the suits changed their minds — maybe Ferrell offered to do it for free because Casa de mi Padre hasn't even recouped its $6 million budget yet? — but they've finally proved themselves smarter than Brick "I Love Lamp" Tamland.

Speaking of which, please don't have Carell say "I love lamp" again for an easy nostalgic chuckle. And please don't suck, at least not as much as The Hangover Part II. Please?
