Remember how NY Rep. Anthony Weiner said that he hadn't tweeted a picture of his penis? Well, he actually did tweet a picture of his penis. "The picture was of me, and I sent it," a teary Weiner told reporters today. He admitted that he's sent "inappropriate" messages to half a dozen women over the past few years, but said that he hadn't cheated on his wife of one year, Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin. (Maybe Abedin's job will be a help here — I feel like Hillary might have some unique guidance on handling this situation.)

Weiner's confession comes as ABC News prepares to run an interview with Meagan Broussard, a twenty-six-year-old woman to whom Weiner had been sending sexual messages. Conservative publisher Andrew Breitbart's BigGovernment.com also posted a picture of a shirtless Weiner. (Check out their site — at the moment it's basically AnthonyWeinerSextingNews.com.) So maybe Weiner realized that his initial claims (weirdly, that the picture was of him but that he wasn't the one who'd tweeted it — nearly Clintonian levels of hair-splitting there, and false to boot) probably weren't going to hold up for long.

Weiner is shaken and already in the "describing one's wife as 'a remarkable woman'" stage of repentance, but the congressman, known for being combative, also said that he would not be resigning, and that "I am sorry, and I continue to be, but I don't see anything that I did that violates any rule of the House. I don't see anything I did that certainly violated my oath of office." There's the old fighting spirit. Up, Weiner!

It's totally inappropriate but wow, he is very nicely hung.

I don't think there was anything lewd or even wrong with the pictures he posted. I'm just annoyed that he didn't admit to posting the pictures right from the beginning. I don't understand how he thought he could actually hide something like this. I feel embarrassed for him and sorry for his wife.
What an idiot.

and I think he should have just admitted that he posted it before it got out of control. He made the situation worse.

Agreed. (Also, is it wrong that I still love him? I think what he did was insanely stupid but I loves me some Anthony Weiner.)

Seconded. You know all those weiner jokes people have been cracking? I would have gotten on the news and made them first. "I put my weiner-shots on so people would stop calling me wine-er".

It won't be long before he has to resign over this. But the usual resignation reason, "to spend more time with one's family", doesn't seem like it would apply.

If Clinton didn't resign, why would this guy? He is not sorry either. Just sorry he got caught.

Just read his texting/tweeting on Radar. I'd say his marriage is done after the Mrs. reads it.

I think it's all my fault. I supported Bill Clinton. I supported John Edwards. I supported Eliot Spitzer. I had been thinking, yeah, Anthony Weiner could make a really good mayor. I sure know how to pick 'em.

BTW, if you accurately pronounced his last name in Yiddish/German, it would be "Vine-er." Never understood why he didn't go that route.

Once again it's not the initial infraction but the lying about it that costs the most. Too bad. Tony was a passionate and erudite advocate for his district. Valuable as he was, he's proven himself dispensible.
