A proposed Super Bowl commercial from JesusHatesObama.com, a site which peddles anti-Obama merchandise such as men's and women's t-shirts, hats, and mugs, has unsurprisingly been rejected by Fox. The spot features a displeased Jesus bobblehead doll staring down a smiling Obama bobblehead until he falls into a fishbowl, seemingly through an act of telekinesis, as "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" plays in the background. Fox deemed the ad unacceptable and said it could not air during the Super Bowl.
A message on the site's home page reads: "Do we really believe that Jesus hates Obama? Of course not! However, we do believe in freedom... as in the freedom to make fun of the Obama administration with novelty t-shirts... our products may be a joke but so are the policies of this administration." One has to imagine that this is a cynical marketing ploy to drum up attention, as a company that basically sells four cheap products might be hard pressed to come up with the millions of dollars it costs to run a thirty-second ad on Super Bowl Sunday.
