The glory of the lip dub is that like many successful YouTube videos, it doesn't require talent. All you need is commitment — and a boss who frequently goes out of town — and you too could make one of these viral hits. Just try to choose better songs.

 

You might think that the French might not even bother with this trend, or if they did, it would be impossibly chic, all Serge Gainsbourg and dim lighting and Chanel shifts. But lip dubs apparently unite us all, and these teens are just as goofy and hammy as everyone else.

 

Much of this video’s hilarity stems from its homey, DIY feel; I can actually imagine myself and my office mates doing this. Because, like them, we often show striking dedication to non-work activities. And we are seriously awesome chair-dancers.

 

The random costumes, the celebration of gin, the fact that it makes us think of Degrassi - there are a lot of things to like in this video from the aggressively cheery University of Quebec students. The Black Eyed Peas song they set it to is...not one of them.

 

We don’t know what’s more impressive – that they managed to coordinate well more than 100 students into this single-shot lip-dub, or that these kids seem so much more attractive than everyone we went to college with.

 

You think pulling off one of these is hard? Try doing it backwards, like the students and teachers of this almost bizarrely committed high school.
