The Weekly Pic

Every month, crowds gather at Cinespace in Los Angeles and Anthology Film Archives in New York to rate new television shows for the internet TV networks Channel101.com and Channel102.net. These forums encourage independent filmmakers to shoot short programs to be screened before a jury of their peers, who play studio chief by either greenlighting the productions or shooting them down.
Loosely inspired by both Miami Vice and the Book of Revelations, Austin Bragg invites us to enter the world of a hard-boiled cop who doesn't play by the rules. Jesus Christ Supercop "was a product of whim and spite," says Bragg. "Jesus comedy is considered 'hack' and cop shows are the same category. It's fun to fight the stigma. The best compliments I've gotten are the 'I really wanted to hate this' type."
This pilot episode lays the foundation for five subsequent parts in which the titular character eventually battles his own inner demons and confronts his greatest nemesis.

Messianic heroes never get the girl.
If we've learned anything from Hollywood, it's that cops can't have relationships because they spend too much time on the job. My heart goes out to all the police officers, FBI agents, CIA operatives, crime-scene investigators, ER doctors, trial lawyers and politicians out there who are in a perpetual state of loneliness due to their undying diligence to defending America.

How far in advance did you plot the series' trajectory?
I held a general idea in my head about where the story was going, but wrote each episode as it came along. The only time I actually scripted a multiple-episode arc was for episodes six and seven, when we were cancelled.

Was there anything surprising about the response you've received?
Not a single person has commented on our use of miniatures, which I think is a credit to the time and effort expended by our model makers.
