The Hooksexup Mixtape With Graveyard

The bedenimed heshers you see before you are Gothenburg's own Graveyard, who play '70s-inflected hard rock described by Rolling Stone's David Fricke as evoking "a nimbler Black Sabbath." 1. Hip Whips, "Stay With Me Forever"

You can't really say anything but clichés about this song. It's really beautiful, particularly because of the Hooksexup in the singer's voice. A simple but grand song.

 

2. The Solution, "Would You Change Your Mind"

Great lyrics about how much you can want something and what you would do to get it. As usual when Nicke Andersson is involved, there's a great production and a swinging beat.

 

3. Robyn, "With Every Heartbeat"

People think that we only listen to '70s rock. Sure, we listen a lot of it, but we like newer stuff too. This is an excellent love song. Robyn has a great voice and always comes up with really good melodies. Great lyrics on this one too.

 

4. Howlin' Wolf, "Howlin' For My Darling"

The howl he does on the chorus is perfect! Animalistic longing and a very good use of his own name. Raw and uncomplicated, with a good ol' blues swing.

 

5. KISS, "I Want You"

This is our bassist's favorite from KISS. It has a horny vibe, which is not so surprising coming from KISS. Hormones flowing in combination with great songwriting.

 

6. Dust, "Love Me Hard"

Kind of besides the love-song point, but this song features Ramones' drummer Marky Ramone... which is hard to believe when you listen to the song. It's cool because it's so hard and heavy, but at the same time, filled with the frustration that only love can give you.

 

7. Muddy Waters, "I Just Want to Make Love to You"

The message here is quite obvious, even though he doesn't talk dirty. You don't even have to read between the lines to understand that if she falls for his song, they're about one second away from fucking their brains out.

 

8. Janis Joplin, "Ball & Chain"

Janis is in a league of her own. Just watch this video. How she can sing so high with that raw whiskey voice is amazing. 

 

9. Fleetwood Mac, "Something Inside of Me"

It feels like we're running out of words to describe how well the pain of love gone bad can be put in music. But Fleetwood Mac are masters of melancholy.

 

10. Bob Dylan, "Lovesick"

The title pretty much says it all: he's so fucking sick of love. He doesn't want anything to do with it anymore. Just like the other songs on this list, this one makes you feel like it's your own feelings he's singing about, even if you're having a great day and you're happy in love. Maybe that's what makes a good love song.
