This is the author of the article...I did indeed screw up by referring to "two-spirited" as a slur. Thanks for catching this and correcting the error!

It's strange to list "two-spirited" as a slur used by Native Americans - as it is an category that is used to cover a range of gender/sexual identities that are viewed as indigenous. Not to suggest that this error is on the part of Hooksexup staff, but I figured it's worth mentioning.

As a point of information, the term "two-spirited" is NOT intended to be offensive. It is a term expressing the existence of a gender that is not exclusively male or female by common Western definitions. It was in fact produced and employed by Native Americans to positively describe a persons gender identity as opposed to defining them by their sexual orientation, which may in fact happen through innacurate or offensive terms.

There was also Playboy's book of Forbidden Words, edited by Robert Anton Wilson. The hardcover was released in 1972, but the link below shows the softcover released later. https://ephemera.typepad.com/ephemera/2006/09/playboys_book_o.html Yes, they're three decades dated. Still pretty cool.
