4:38 – She’s late, the game kicked off at 4 o’clock. It’s okay though, this is one of my favorite pubs in Oakland and I probably wouldn’t be able to enjoy the game if she were here. Plus, this will inevitably end badly.
4:43 – Who’s that attractive girl that just entered the bar and why is she waving at the guy behind me?
4:45 – “Hey, it looked like you didn’t recognize me for a sec,” she says followed by, “Sorry I’m late, how’s the game going?”
4:46 – I tell her, “The team I want to win is losing so… I’m gonna grab another beer, want one?”
5:35 – “The game’s as good as over, wanna check out the First Friday art walk? Since you’re new to town you might as well let me show you around.” I say.
5:50 – “Well, this being Oakland everything starts late. Wanna go play bocce ball at a bar down the street?”
6:50 – We’re two shots and nearly two more beers deep. She’s fun and easy to talk to. Maybe we can become friends.
6:52 – An all-American looking couple playing bocce invite us to play doubles with the them. Molly merrily accepts their invitation.
7:14 – She really seems to be enjoying herself and is becoming fast friends with this couple. I find it hard to believe she doesn’t make friends easily.
7:21 – The couple invites us to buy the drinks we owe them for losing at the bar next door.
7:30 – We slam down our grey hounds while the couple takes theirs down with a bit more experience. It’s fourth of July and they plan to hit all the bars on the way to Jack London Square before the fireworks.
7:48 – Now we’re at the Golden Bull and the couple buys a round of tequila shots. Molly might be kinda drunk though, I can’t really tell because she’s so smooth.
8:01 – We lost the game of pool so now I’m buying more shots. I’m having a lot more fun than I earlier anticipated.
8:05 – The girls scurry to the bathroom laughing. Chad seizes the opportunity to impart relationship advice based on what Molly apparently told his girlfriend, which is to be a better communicator. I’m buzzing and reveling in this lie that Molly has set because I’m fancying us dating after today’s fun. I’m like a moth to a flame. On one shoulder is my best friend that is an angel and dated her in high school telling me that I agreed to not bone her. On my other shoulder is my devilish best friend that is snickering as if I had already made a deal with him, too.
8:21 – The girls finally emerge. Molly wants me to take her home. I agree to, my angel whispers in my ear to not step foot in her house.
8:47 – Her roommates are home, I tell myself that it’s kosher for me to enter. My devil tells me it would be rude to not say hello to them.
8:48 – How did we just end up in her room so quickly with our clothes off on her bed?
9:31 – I ask my angel if I am allowed to find solace in the fact that my briefs are still on.
9:49 – Her sheets are soaked. She’s came once a minute since we started but my forearms are cramping. The new silence is weird.
9:50 – Fireworks start to boom outside. They need to work on their timing.
