Most of the #DivorceTattoos are inspirational, with text like "Free Yourself" and a bunch of flying birds. This is part of a survival trend, a way of accumulating badges of experience to commemorate emotional wars we've fought. The issue comes when you realized these documents of the past are real permanent. What happens after you've moved past the divorce? Your next partner will have to stare at a giant scripted text of "This Too Shall Pass" on your back in bed. The bottom line is, a life moment as traditionally negative as divorce (though, sometimes positive) will have a place on you forever. You will recover from your divorce in time, but the Tumblr-esque inspirational balloon will stick around.
The newly-single inked ladies — it's mainly women posting — are attempting to wave a banner of personal acceptance through their current situation, which is understandable.
