Where strong and rough meets soft and feminine.
French photographer Pascal Pierrou spent years shooting only one type of female body during his tenure as a fashion photographer, which is the basic inspiration for his new photo series on the ultimate "modern girl." His work showcases an alternate reading of feminine beauty, one that challenges the media's stereotypical image of a prim, clean-cut, and overly feminized girl. The gorgeous portraits focus on nude women with short or no hair, tattoos, and piercings, but the subtle lighting still conjures a gentle feeling of innocence. The portrait of a nude woman with a sword is a nod to the series as a whole, a double-sided profile of the modern woman — strong and rough on one side, soft and feminine on the other.
