The First Annual hooksexup.com Farewell-to-Summer Pool-Scene Montage
Take one last dip with us before summertime is through.
Man, did this summer go fast. And today, as worryingly autumnal light streams through our window, we kind of wish we were in a pool, rather than in an office building in Lower Manhattan. Maybe you do too. Next best thing: while you pretend to work, watch this lovingly assembled montage of our favorite movie pool scenes. You can pretend that Phoebe Cates is getting out of your pool, and then maybe everything will feel a little warmer. Enjoy!

Phoebe Cates remains gorgeous then and now, but I'm particularly thrilled you included Will Ferrell as Ron Burgundy and Billy Crudup in the "Almost Famous" "I am a golden god!" scene. And Bill Murray in "Rushmore"! Outstanding on all counts. Weird that Hollywood rarely features people of color swimming, though. I know it's the old stereotype, but we've got all got friends of color who do, in fact, swim. (Or, obviously, if you yourself are a person of color, you can probably do more than tread water.)
It's probably due to the overall lack of people in color in film in general, although there is a lovely Friday the 13th scene (not the original, some sequel where teenagers are on a cruise ship with their teachers -- you remember that high school cruise ship we all took, right?) where Jason simply throws a black guy over the side of the ship and proceeds to his next victim, assuming the black guy is dead. The twist is that he isn't!
Good point on all counts! And somehow, "Friday the 13th" sums up perfectly the feeling of summer edging into fall and winter.
Who uses the term "person of color"?
Lots of people.
A freaking racist, that's who! Hahahaha
Who trolls Hooksexup? Losers, that's who.
Thanks, Dee. It's a common term. The question is, "Who doesn't use it?" A lot of friends I have and, also, some sociologists prefer it to "ethnic minority" b/c "minority", while statistically true, has taken on connotations of "less than". Also, "person of color" includes African-Americans, Hispanics, Asians, Native Americans and everyone else who is not White.
*European Americans
White is offensive.
Oh god, I can't even type that with a straight face because of the absurdity. But the point is "african-american" is absurd as well. Despite the intent to be sensitive.
I like the "Rushmore" scene
Where's the scene from Y Tu Mamá También?
Agree!
Wow. That actually made me sad. Fucking wintertime.
Cocoon?
Christie Brinkley? Vacation? C'mon...

Apollo Creed in 'Rocky IV' throwing tennis balls for his dogs whist watching TV in his pool in should have been there.
Excuse the 'in' after 'pool' and the sentence makes more sense.
