It seems that nefarious organization Planned Parenthood is at it again. Not only have they been guzzling money from the government to pay for the sins of harlots, but now they've moved on to disgracing God Himself, by accepting a piece of Bible-sales pie. Not to fear: Christian bookstore LifeWay won't stand for it. The pink Bible, formerly sold at LifeWay but since removed from shelves, helps raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which then donates $1 per sale to help fund those curséd Planned Parenthood breast-cancer programs.
Here's what Thom S. Rainer, president and CEO of LifeWay, had to say about their decision:
"When our leadership discovered the overwhelming concern that some of Komen's affiliates were giving funds to Planned Parenthood, we began the arduous process of withdrawing this Bible from the market. Though we have assurances that Komen's funds are used only for breast cancer screening and awareness, it is not in keeping with LifeWay's core values to have even an indirect relationship with Planned Parenthood."
Jokes aside, the Planned Parenthood breast-cancer programs, in case anyone wasn't sure (looking at you, Rainer), have nothing to do with abortion, or fetuses, or babies, or sinning, or burning in hell for eternity because a woman wasn't ready to be a mother. But these programs do protect and treat already living women who have or may contract breast cancer.
Seems to me that the real Christian thing to do would be to set politics aside (because, really, this is 100% political) and put human beings first. I was brought up in an Irish Catholic household, mind you, so I know a thing or two about guilt. And I think I'd feel pretty damn guilty if I was responsible for all those dollars lost that could have gone toward helping women.
