Atheist buses

Believers and non-believers continue their long, drawn-out battle, this time in a contest that pits atheist vs. Christian in a gladiatorial, online fundraising death match.

The social-networking site Reddit hosts various online community groups, such as reddit.com/r/christianity and reddit.com/r/Atheism. These two groups are now duking it out through the auspices of FirstGiving.com, the communities' fundraising pages. Around $45,000 has already been raised, with the atheists donating to Christians, and vice versa, in the spirit of impartial generosity. Reddit's Muslim community has now entered the fray. I'm pretty sure this is exactly what Michael Jackson was talking about.

Both World Vision, the Christian relief group, and Doctors Without Borders will now benefit from this virtual anti-Armageddon. Sometimes a pissing match can be fruitful.

If only every philosophical debate could be fought by trying to out-nice each other

If only Hooksexup would stop setting up easy atheist vs. Christian debates to get more hits.

I wonder what the Jehovah's Witnesses think about this?

Can't we all just get along? Apparently not.

In full disclosure, I work at FirstGiving. It might be helpful to link to the online fundraising pages that the r/atheism and r/christianity groups have set up. If you read the comments left by donors on the fundraising pages, then it's abundantly clear that the two groups really support each other. Atheists are donating on the Christianity page, and vice-versa. r/Islam has also set up a page. You can view them all here: r/atheism's page for Doctors Without Borders: https://www.firstgiving.com/ratheism. r/christianity's page for World Vision's Clean Water Campaign: https://www.firstgiving.com/rchristianity. R/Islam's campaing for Islamic Relief: https://www.firstgiving.com/rislam
