After demise of Craigslist's Adult Services, a new leader in online prostitution emerges

Village Voice Media has nobly taken the throne as the internet's top source for finding prostitutes. Backpage.com, the VVM-owned destination for regional classifieds, has surged in traffic since September, when Craigslist decided to pull its ballyhooed erotic services section.
But heavy is the head that wears the crown; the New York Observer reports that Backpage is being charged for having "aided and abetted prostitution as well as the exploitation of children and child pornography by failing to investigate the ads."
Village Voice Media is fighting to have the case dismissed, as they have a lot of money at stake. (Craigslist's CEO, on the other hand, is famous for having "little interest in maximizing profit.") Said a consultant of Backpage's profitability, "There are clear signs that some revenue and listings are migrating to Backpage and to other sites that specialize in prostitution advertising."
In other words, "Great job, internet!"

Well, they have to go somewhere. Just like the street prostitutes, when the heat comes down, they move to another neighborhood. Good luck to anyone, any government, any zealots trying to shut down prostitution. Get a life and join a church instead. The churches need you more than some internet porn palace.

There has been many times in history when Goverments(usally backed or told by churches) have tried to "control" the so called morals of it's citizens& it's allways been a dismal failure(usally things got worse because it was driven underground!
Controling wich religion-war on drugs--proibition(booze)& the list goes on!

not as often churches as you'd think. There is a long history of this kind of governmental practice- governments need functioning families to maximize taxes and minimize needed services by citizens. It is the first crackdown when cultures realize they've become too permissive to function.
