Hookups can lead to strong relationships - according to scientists

Most people believe hooking up and promiscuous sex leads only to a quick breakup, but that's not what scientists say. According to new research, hookup culture doesn't mean split-up culture... as long as both partners want a long-term relationship.
We didn't see much evidence that relationships were lower quality because they started off as hookups. The study suggests that rewarding relationships are possible for those who delay sex. But it's also possible for true love to emerge if things start off with a more 'Sex and the City' approach, when people spot each other across the room, become sexually involved and then build a relationship.
However, that doesn't mean you can't start out as friends, hookup and end up happily ever after:
Couples who became sexually involved as friends or acquaintances and were open to a serious relationship ended up just as happy as those who dated and waited.
This comes on the heels of another study, this one from Wet, which claims that 18% of Americans have never used protection. Let's hope they're all virgins.

I believe it... it's how I met my boyfriend. We hooked up casually for a year and finally decided to try a serious thing. We've been dating for the past 2 years :)... Although, he still allows me to hook up with chicks every so often. It's a fair trade off I think.
That's how my parents met.
I hooked up with my current boyfriend expecting it to be a one time thing. Two years later, and madly in love.
A couple I know started as roommates crushing and never really dated. They're still together 28 years and three children later.
