Harry Potter nerds upset about topless makeout scene
By Brian FairbanksNovember 22nd, 2010, 8:49 amComments (12)Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 took in about $125 million at the American box office this weekend, a stunning total that shows people are totally willing to pay twice (and at $13 for movie tickets in some cities) for the same book adaptation. This means Harry Potter will soon best Luke Skywalker as the biggest-grossing protagonist in film history. But how was the movie... and that rumored topless scene?
Fans should have been prepared for a darker, creepier story than in the past, since the final book was the darkest, creepiest and most mature of the series. The kids are growing up, too, but some fans apparently need to be reminded that these characters are basically adults now.
"They're totally topless and it's really creepy, " "It was a little awkward. It was not a natural kiss, and they were naked, which added a whole other aspect to it." "It actually made me more uncomfortable." [MTV]
Those were general fan reactions to Daniel Radcliffe's naked kiss with a topless Emma Watson in the PG-13 film. I'm trying not to give too much away, but it's important to note that it's basically a fantasy sequence.
I found the scene unsettling but also slightly arousing, as was another scene thick with sexual tension. What did you guys think? Too weird?

I think it was creepy, but in context, it was sppropriately creepy. I think I know what you mean about the other scene, which I thought was kind of endearing in it's awkward late-adolescent way. The only regret I have re: topless bits is that Natalia Tena doesn't have one. Tonks is super-cute, too bad... well, you know what's coming for her.
Aren't these people like, in their forties or something now? A pension check is next.
Harry Potter and the Deferred Mortgage Loan.
It was precisely what it should have been! And this movie was the least disappointing so far, actually.
Wait...why does Harry kiss Hermione naked? Was that in the book?
It was kind of in the book Shannon. It is hard to describe without giving too much away, but basically it was an imagination of them making out. I, personally, found it a little awkward. The cool black guy with dreads sitting next to me in the theaters was like ">:v what?" when it happened, which was kinda funny. I felt it was not stepping outside of the realm of comfort, though. Like Matt said, in context it was appropriately creepy. I think it was meant to make you a little upset.
Ohhh. Vivid imagination. Or crappy excuse to get them naked.
Weird, I didn't get a creepy feeling at all, but now that you mention it, like Matt said, it was supposed to be a creepy scene anyway. I mean, they were basically plastic-looking versions of the characters.
It was a little morbid and creepy, but it worked. The characters are adults in the movie and real life at this point, and half of them have already had some sort if snogging based relationship in the books anyway. I thought the part where hermione was being straddled and tortured by an evil witch was way creepier anyway. Not in a bad way neccessarily though. At least no vampire babies are eating their way out of any wombs.....
I have been waiting for ages to see Emma in the buff. Nice one JK.
i wish i saw more of hermione's tits.
couldn't agree more xD
Now you say something
