Anti-gay Republican caught in Craigslist male prostitute scandal
By Alex HeiglAugust 12th, 2011, 2:15 pmComments (48)Indiana state Representative Phillip Hinkle, a man whose congressional achievements have included voting against gay marriage and forcing the state to offer an "In God We Trust" license plate, has been accused of hiring a male prostitute through Craigslist.
Emails shared with The Indianapolis Star suggest that Hinkle offered a young male (with the I-shit-you-not name of Kameryn Gibson) posting on Craigslist in search of "a sugga daddy" $80 plus tip to spend time with him Saturday night at a Marriott.
The emails, sent from Hinkle's publicly listed personal address (really? come on), humbly request "a couple hours of your time tonight," in exchange for cash up front and a tip of $50 or $60 "for a really good time."
Kamryn (I'm going to take every opportunity I can to use that name) told The Star that he met with Hinkle, but attempted to leave after finding out that he was a state lawmaker (shockingly, the rent boy was the voice of propriety in this situation), at which point Hinkle "... told him he could not leave, grabbed him in the rear, exposed himself to the young man and then later gave him an iPad, BlackBerry cellphone and $100 cash to keep quiet."
Hinkle's statement to The Star? "Representative Hinkle is aware of the inquiries by The Indianapolis Star and we are investigating the matter at this time. We request that everyone respect the privacy of the family at this time."
Apparently Kameryn's sister Megan picked him up after he backed out of the deal, and at one point received a call to Hinkle's BlackBerry from his wife. Megan, nothing if not honest, told the woman, "Your husband is gay." This exchange was followed by a series of calls from various family members demanding proof.
After eventually showing Hinkle's daughter the emails, Megan says she got another call from Hinkle's wife, this time offering her and Kameryn $10,000 to stay quiet about the night's events.
The last call she took that night was from Hinkle's Mariott room, and it was the politician himself on the line. Megan told him that she'd just outed him to his wife and family, at which point he responded with probably the most truthful statement of his entire political career: "You just ruined me."

Wouldn't you think he'd do even better if he went by the name Kanrym? (Sound it out.)
Still waiting for the Marcus Bachmann gay sexting/prostitution scandal.
Kanrym...oh, I see what you did there!
There really should be monumemts built (or at least donated billboard space), boasting of these hypocrites that get caught.
Can't a gay person be against gay marriage? Why is that necessarily hyprocritical? Just because certain gay people have decided that it's important, we all have to go that way?
Sure they can be against gay marriage, no one denies that they aren't allowed the right to be against gay marriage if they are gay. But, I would still consider it hypocritical that someone who is gay think that they shouldn't have the right to marry because the love they might feel for another person is not valid or kosher, if you will, as a heterosexual relationship based on subjective religious opinions. Just in the same way I would think it is hypocritical for a black person to be against the civil rights campaigns in the 60's. Or, perhaps a better fit would be: in the same way as it would be hypocritical for a person in an inter-racial marriage would be against inter-racial marriages when they were illegal.
Really Thundering Herm? Really?
This doesn't even deserve an answer, but since you clearly don't get it, here it is:
It is not that some have DECIDED it's important. It is that some people have come to realize that gay folks should be treated the same. Why would any gay person in their right mind not feel that they deserve to be happy too?
This sad, weak man, and other closeted gays help keep gays from having equal rights and it drives the message that gays are second rate citizens.
Here's a question for you: when slavery was ending in the US, do you think there were actually black folks who thought they should still be insalved and fought to keep it?
Duh. And dumb.
Apparently, I'm not intelligent enough to understand that a married man trying to hook up with a gay boy using Craigslist is the opposite of "protecting the sanctity of marriage". Therefore I should be banned for life from using the word "hypocritical". Then again, I also make up tons of fake names to spread my conservative garbage on Hooksexup comments. Unless I get lazy and only reply to your name using a "@".
I think it's more disheartening than anything -- it's sad that maybe this man was so uncomfortable with his sexuality that he felt he had to live his life in a way that made it impossible for him to publicly express himself.
I don't think politicians support or don't support gay marriage, abortion, etc. because of their personal beliefs but rather they show their support based on the beliefs of their supporters.
Love is love is love and I cannot wait until our country sees that.
i hate you, thundering herm.
@ThunderingHerm: Here is a more dispassionate version of the comments. If he is against (Gay/Straight) marriage, then he can choose not to exercise his human right to get married to another person. Using the power granted to him by the people to actually deny some people the human right he himself has chosen to exercise is hypocritical. Better?
personally, I think it doesn't mean that you HAVE to get married, it's just nice to have the option, you know? just because you wouldn't do it doesn't mean others wont, and as such, having that option open is nice. Same with other stuff like abortion, blah blah blah, just because you don't want to do it, or don't believe that it should/shouldn't happen, doesn't mean that other people shouldn't have the opportunity to choose for themselves.
Just another example of how ALL politicians (Democrats and Republicans) toe the party line, even when it conflicts with their personal beliefs.
TRUST NONE OF THEM.
Right. Yet another Republican gets caught with his pants in another man's hands, and that means that Democrats can't be trusted.
I love false equivalencies. Especially when I'm trying to forget that Republican sex offenders far outnumber Democratic sex offenders. Facts won't get in my way!
What MRAGH does not get is it is the hypocrisy of the matter that makes it our business...if he is not running on a 'family values'/anti-gay platform I could give a flying f*@k what he does in his personal life.
I like to ignore the fact that Representative Phillip Hinkle DOES run on a "family values'/anti-gay platform". I'm just too intellectually lazy to look into it before commenting.
Another one eh?
hahahahha! point a finger, got four pointin' back at ya.
I must have a double jointed thumb.
more like 3 and an awkward double pointer
well, mah pinky's got a bit o' a kink in it, too
The dude didn't even get some satisfaction... That's a damned shame.
If I had a nickel for every one of these hypocrites...
You'd probably at least have enough money to pay for one of these "sugga daddy" seeking fellows, if you so pleased.
Another one? Just goes to show, the more homophobic the conservative is, the more homo-curious they really are! https://newsjunkiepost.com/2010/03/12/the-top-10-conservative-sex-scandals/
I am guessing that he is also a big supporter of the death penalty and opposes any form of help to poor mothers and children. The only life worth protecting is from conception to birth. After that, you are on your own. "Hypocrite" does not even begin to cover the moral deficiency here.
A republican against gay rights turns out to be hiring gay male prostitutes and paying them cash to stay quiet? *gasp*
Say it ain't so! A hypocritical neo-con!?!?!
I don't understand why all these closeted politicians are having to pay for man on man sex. It's pretty easy to find men via Craigslist to have sex with that are free.
Yes but when you're 70 it's tough to hook up with the young ones.
not if you look like that doofus.
He's a hunk!
Better than Marcus Bachmann getting caught at this would be RICK PERRY. It's putative within the Austin gay community that RICK PERRY IS A CLOSET CASE. Go to any gay bar in town and mention the Guv and you will get a raft of info about his shenanigans.
I can't wait until that smoking gun emerges.
Oh boy am I looking forward to THAT!!!!
I have heard the same in Austin for years. Will be nice to see that smug grin come off that face for once when he gets a taste of real investigative journalism instead of what he has seen in Texas.
Yeah, he can say "A dios Mofo" all he wants. We will be the ones saying "a dios" mofo!
Ooops, I meant "A dildo Mofo"
Apparently, teenagers are not the only ones who need to learn about safe sex. So do politicians! Perhaps the abstinence-only lectures should be given to them as well.
Hahahahaha…ya know, this would be considered adultery by all standards and the bible specifically states that adulterers should be put to death. So why do we not hear about that from these religious hypocrites? Actually adultery is far more damaging to family values than abortion or gay people. Why the silence on this issue? Adultery is mentioned twice in the ten commandments so I would think it is pretty important to their great cloud god, yet nothing about abortion or being gay in those same commandments.
Every time a politician speaks against gay rights, they (gays) need to demand that all hetro Christians be put to death for adultery… their god demands it.
Oh no !!!lol
did he try and hook up with marcus bachman ? Lets hope there are sado maso pictures from that encounter ! why am i not suprised that another anti gay republican loves some gay action ?lets hope he had safe sex i am sure people from craigslist have coodies :)
Ho-hum. Another Republican politician likes to fuck guys. This isn't really news anymore.
Does anyone else find it odd that the Weiner scandal was everywhere you looked and this is in the IndyStar and hooksexup.com? Maybe it will blow up in a bit, but I don't remember Weiner getting a lot of respect for his privacy.
It's obviously because Weiner didn't have family values - this guy does (just compare at Weiner's last name - destined for trouble, to be honest). I mean, clearly.
WHY CAN'T PEOPLE RESPECT THE SANCTITY OF CHEATING ON ONE'S WIFE TO SCREW RANDOM MEN OFF THE INTERNET. I mean, I know Hinkle's a homophobe, but at least he was gonna tip.
yeah, I mean, common decency--the guy got an IPAD! my friend had a hell of a time trying to get a hold of one, and this guy got it for free.
The main difference between Weiner and this guy is that Weiner was a US Congressman with a pretty high national profile, whereas this guy is a state legislature who may be well known in Indiana but has zero national profile, in other words, no one cares about this guy. Larry Craig of airport bathroom solicitation fame was probably a closer analog to Weiner, and he got seriously, and deservedly, pilloried for his conduct.
I did a quick search on NYT and then Fox News to see what came up. There is one result for "Phillip Hinkle" in NYT citing this scandal.
https://query.nytimes.com/search/sitesearch?query=Phillip+Hinkle&srchst=cse
Fox News has yet to catch wind of this breaking news piece, apparently.
When we finally report on it, we'll put a (D) after his name, just like we did with Mark Foley.
.
Now you say something
