Jason Alexander slams Mitt Romney on Twitter for appropriating Seinfeld line

At the GOP debate Wednesday night, Mitt Romney — receiving applause for his opening statement — paraphrased a line from Seinfeld: "As George Costanza would say, when they're applauding, stop." (Actually, Jerry said it, not George.)

It's not the first time that Romney had (mis)quoted the show, but it was the first time that a cast member responded. On Twitter, Jason Alexander snarked:

You'd think that someone as fussy as George Constanza (or at least the guy who played him) would care about proper spelling, but it's still a harsh burn, considering Romney's flip-flop from pro-choice, gay-friendly, health care-mandating Massachusetts governor to "severely conservative."

Alexander has tweeted about Romney before, expressing admiration. On June 2, 2011 the actor wrote, "I'm a pretty die hard Dem. But I will follow Romney campaign. He seems a worthy guy." Now, it seems that Alexander's opinion has hardened to something more like: the jerk store called, and they're running out of Mitt.
