Ron Paul, the Republican presidential hopeful who is barely even a Republican and never really had any hope, has suspended his current bid for the Republican nomination a few weeks after Mitt Romney had started acting like it was his. (Which, you know, it is.) The Texan congressman had the strong support of Libertarians, college dudes who only just started getting into this whole "politics" thing, and Reddit, but this was not enough to unseat Robot McMoneyBags. To be fair, though, he did get 104 delegates, which isn't that far from what Newt Gingrich was able to score.
Moving forward, however, we will no longer spend resources campaigning in primaries in states that have not yet voted. Doing so with any hope of success would take many tens of millions of dollars we simply do not have.
But wait: if you too believe in a laughably small federal government, impending race wars, and a return to the gold standard, don't give up hope! Because Paul would still love your vote, if you happen to be a registered Republican and live in one of the eleven states that have not yet voted:
Our campaign will continue to work in the state convention process. We will continue to take leadership positions, win delegates, and carry a strong message to the Republican National Convention that Liberty is the way of the future.
Rep. Paul isn't wrong — he has enough delegates at this point to make something of an impact in Tampa this August, where we'll get to see who Mittens Von Silverspoon chooses as his running mate. (Word is he's looking for an "incredibly boring white guy." Paul, while white, is anything from boring, unfortunately for him.) So for all you brahs in California, and you ladies in New Jersey who want to legalize heroin, and people in the Dakotas who aren't crazy about the Civil Rights Act: still vote for Paul, even though he's done with this slog.
