Ira Glass responds to This American Life parody, "The Ira Glass Sex Tape"

If you had to come up with a celebrity least likely to have a sex tape, who would it be? When This American Life fan Julian Joslin answered this question with "Ira Glass," he decided that this meant the world needed a a podcast of the NPR host mulling over how to go about making a sex tape, and then doing so, on the air, with Terry Gross. If you haven't yet listened to the two-act parody radio show, prepare your ears, because it's absolutely spot-on. Which means you won't be able to forget the sound of Ira Glass and Terry Gross getting it on in Gross's "NPR member station."

The clip was put together with actual cut recordings of Alex Bloomberg, Jonathan Goldstein and Terry Gross, but the voice of Ira Glass was mimicked by Joslin, the producer of the video. When "The Ira Glass Sex Tape" went viral, it seemed everyone was wondering how Ira Glass himself would react to it. Now that he has, it's kind of sad!

"I've listened to about three minutes of it. His imitation of my writing and delivery are so dead-on, it was hard to keep listening and I stopped. If I had to articulate why, I think it was because hearing his version of me, made what I do on the air seem kind of dumb. And the impersonation was so good, I couldn't really pick a fight with it. So I had to decide, do I want to see myself as kind of trite and dumb? Seemed better to stop. Maybe I'll go back sometime."

Oh, Ira. Don't be so hard on yourself. The only thing that's changed between your audience and you is that some of us are now "thinking about you in nothing but your glasses." Oh, is that just me? Still, you should have at least stuck around until minute seven; it's impossible not to laugh at fake-Ira's reasoning for preferring really loud sex: "Because otherwise I wouldn't be able to hear you over the sound of my own neurosis."
