Forbidden Fruit
by Andrew Einhorn

I have a friend who has a fruit phobia. A cluster of grapes, a juicy Granny Smith apple, a firm banana — you name it, she won't touch it, citing "fleshiness" as the aversion. Andrew Einhorn's latest gallery, in which fleshiness of both the female and fruit variety abounds, may send my friend running in panic to the cereal aisle. The rest of us might decamp to the produce section.

Einhorn captures his models, freshly scrubbed and merrily unafraid of pineapple, in the bathroom instead of the kitchen or orchard, a provocative choice that plays into the clean comfort of his photographs: vibrant colors, sexy and unsullied bodies, blithe faces. Fruit has always been vaguely sexual — the texture, the taste, all those hedonistic associations! — but these aren't exactly private "females having fun with fruit" moments.
