Your job requires that you blow for a long time without taking a break for breath. Has this skill served you well in the bedroom?

Actually most of glassblowing doesn't involve much blowing, and you often have an assistant to do that. But glassblowers are well acclimated to working in hot and sweaty environments for hours. Stamina and focus are great assets for glassblowing, and all of this translates to other parts of your life.



What sexual act do you find repugnant?

None, as long as it's between consenting adults. Personally, I shy away from anything involving clowns. They're scary.



Have you gotten dates or hookups because of your job?

I'd hope I've gotten dates and hookups because of my engaging personality and winning looks, but perhaps it was just because someone wanted a glassblowing lesson. It does make for good conversation and maybe that whole art-career thing is intriguing, but I can't credit it specifically.

My friend thinks his girlfriend cheated but has no proof. What can he do?

Your friend needs to examine why he thinks she's cheated. Is he being paranoid or overly possessive, or are there hard facts that suggest she's cheated? If so, have a heart-to-heart talk and see what she has to say for herself.

What's the best way to get a friend to bed?

Be persistently charming and flirty at the right time. Know when to make your move decisively.



How should President-elect Obama improve sex education programs?

How about actually providing some support for fact-based sex-education programs for a start? "Abstinence" is not education, it's a conservative agenda.

Have you gotten dates or hookups because of your job?

Well, my boyfriend predates my working with glass, so I haven't really gotten to test it as a way to get dates. But it's a lot of fun to tell people at parties that you play with fire for a living. Sure beats an office job!



Where's the best glass museum to take a date?

The Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Washington, is a great museum, but really, any gallery opening with free wine and food is the place to be if you're both "starving" artists.



What are the repercussions of your being very tolerant to pain and heat?

Getting small burns is a regular occurrence, and they definitely bother me less than they did at first. That said, it can be quite the surprise when shards of hot glass shatter from the piece I'm working on and jump down my shirt. Kind of takes the thrill out of those low-temp soy massage candles!

I'd imagine in addition to strong lungs, you have strong hands. How does your job affect your skill set in the bedroom?

The work I do involves shaping rods of glass into beads and other solid objects, so I don't do much blowing. Working as a glassblower makes you immune to double entendres, by the way. I definitely spend lots of time working with my hands, though, and maybe that counts for something.



But one interesting way that working in glass intersects with the bedroom is that I know a few people who make a living selling handmade sex toys. In fact, I've had two separate conversations in the past few weeks, with other glass artists, about the potential profitability of sex toys versus the paperweights, goblets or jewelry that we all currently make.

What's the best way to get a friend to love you?

This can be difficult, because if you treat them as a really great friend, they're going to think of you as a really great friend. I would probably just be honest with them about your feelings, and hope for the best.



What is the sexiest thing about glassblowers and why?

If you're into guys with good-looking forearms and shoulders, hanging out at a hot shop could be a really good thing for you. Lots of interesting tattoos as well. A guy I know has a tattoo of flaming torches.
