The pundits and attack dogs are doing all they can to smear Ted Kennedy in the wake of his death last week from brain cancer.

And, of course, the man's record is not exactly spotless...

The Post story breaks down Kennedy's career as if it were one long rumor... or rap sheet:

-July 19, 1969: Mary Jo Kopechne dies when Kennedy's car plunges from a bridge. Kennedy, of course, survives, but does not report the accident for more than 10 hours. Some accuse him of "complicity" in her death; others suspect drunk driving. Either way, he receives a two-month suspended jail sentence, which apparently destroyed his chances of becoming President... at least until 1980.

-A 1990 GQ story accused him of trying to lure two sixteen-year-old girls into his limo with a bottle of wine.

-The Post also mentions the rumors of Kennedy partying with Democratic Senator Chris Dodd, bumping and grinding with an unhappy waitress, then having sex with a lobbyist on the floor of the same restaurant.

-Of course, they also bring up the rape trial of William Kennedy Smith, which was only made famous because of his relationship with Uncle Ted. The Post even trots out a former head of Planned Parenthood to sum up the left's support for a man with such a debauchery-filled past:

"He worked with women's groups in a very respectful way, in a way that few other senators do," she says. "But I don't know that you can reconcile it -- when it's in a group's best interest that said person stays in that chair, how do you weigh that moral equation? I wish it were simpler than that."
