Strip-Club Ad Takes Advantage Of Intersex Runner's Drama

Nothing like the destruction of one woman's self-perception to get those singles flowing, am I right?

AdFreak brought to our attention this charming ad from Teazers strip club in South Africa that somehow makes most strip club ads seem downright tasteful:

[caption id="attachment_10968" align="alignnone" width="425" caption=""The teaze without the sleaze?" Are you sure, guys? Maybe you should double-check that."]"The teaze without the sleaze?" Are you sure, guys? Maybe you should double-check that.[/caption]

In case you didn't realize, that's a reference to sprinter Caster Semenya, who was forced to undergo gender tests earlier in the summer when people decided she was getting too good to be a girl. The tests did prove that Semenya had some male characteristics, which I'm sure must have been a really fun day for Semenya herself.

(Results not withstanding, the whole dust-up raises some good questions about the reasons why people would begin to question her in the first place and how/whether or not its even necessary to enforce rigid gender rules in sports. For another time! And probably another blog.)

The owner of the club, Lolly Jackson (who moved to South Africa from Candyland, I imagine), denies that the ad has anything to do with Semenya, and said:

We have women, 100 percent women here. I did a test on them, I am a professional, and they are 100 percent women.

Ugh, I am frightened to imagine what this man considers the "test" that proves his strippers are "real" women. Also, he is lying. But I think that Jackson is missing a real opportunity here - this could be a real "branding moment" for Teazers. "Teazers - The only club that uses nothing but the most awful references in our ads!" Some suggestions:

"Teazers - Trust us, you'll want to leave your wife and eight young children!"

"Teazers - Don't worry, none of these girls will get you extradited from France!"

"Teazers - Don't worry, none of these girls are your nineteen-year-old daughter!"

(Ugh, I'm sorry. I'm off to kill myself. Joining me, Lolly?)
