If Gothic arches get you going, you’re out of luck.
It’s a sad day for horny historic church-goers: Britain’s Canterbury Cathedral, the most famous church in England, has officially acted to ban online porn from their wifi network. Presumably, that will, in general, not be hugely problematic: there are lots of places to watch porn on the internet, like all of the places that are not the thousand-year-old Gothic tourist attraction. But if St. Augustine is what gets you going, the London Evening Standard reports, you’re out of luck.
Apparently, managers at the cathedral want to “deter patrons from visiting ‘salacious’ sites while also offering internet access in their newly-opened café,” explains the paper. And while it is not necessarily obvious that Gothic architecture would incite everyone to whip out their phones and check in with RedTube, the neighboring Chester Cathedral had to shut down their public wifi after “it was revealed patrons could access hardcore pornography as they enjoyed a cup of tea and a slice of cake in the café after their visit.” Canterbury is intent on avoiding a similarly wifi-less fate.
Luckily for publicly porn-consuming Britons, there are still plenty of other places to take full (frontal) advantage of coffee shop wifi networks. While Canterbury Cathedral is officially out, the Evening Standard says that one in three restaurants and cafés with public wifi have no restrictions in place, so there are still plenty of places to salaciously browse to your heart’s content, albeit maybe without the Early Norman influence.
