Male, 18 years old, Boston
By the time I graduated high school, my experience with the opposite sex consisted of a few girls that I had made out with and a one-month relationship. That relationship mostly consisted of awkwardly fumbling in my car as it was parked in her parent’s driveway late at night. But high school ended, and I had my whole life in front of me to figure out the opposite sex. And I decided the best place to start that discovery was as a counselor at a Christian summer camp in New Hampshire. While this may seem odd, it turns out religious summer camps have their fair share of alcohol, drugs, and sex.
Within my first few days of working at the camp I met Kate. Kate was two and a half years older than me and probably four years more experienced than me. I found myself instantly attracted to her sarcasm and wit and somehow my awkwardness and innocence came off as cute. A week or two into camp, we made out for the first time, and it was quickly followed by other firsts. About two weeks into us camp dating, we found ourselves at a friend’s house for a night off, and we had the chance to share a room alone. This was a huge improvement on the quick hookup sessions we had after campers went to bed in the woods around camp.
We went to bed that night and things escalated pretty quickly. Suddenly we were both completely naked, the first time I had ever been in totally naked with a girl. I didn’t know what to do next, but was incredibly horny, so I whispered to her that I had a condom with me. The ideal response in this situation would have been excitement. Her response was laughter. I got really uncomfortable and self-conscious, but luckily she let it go and we spent the rest of the night getting each other off.
The summer ended and Kate and I decided to stay together. Our colleges were only a two-hour bus ride away and we spent the weekends going back and forth to visit each other. Her second time coming to visit me the topic of sex came up, and I told her I was a virgin, which she suspected all along. We decided we should have sex, but my three-person dorm room was not the most private place for it. We made plans to do the deed the following weekend at her place.
I was a nervous wreck during the bus ride to her the following week. To top it off, I had a terrible fever and was barely coherent. I showed up to her place and she thought I looked awful. She offered to wait until the next time we saw each other, but I was determined. We slipped under the sheets of her twin-sized bed, clumsily took off our clothes, and pulled out the condom. The act was fun, awkward, and relatively quick, but the first thing I noticed was I felt much better after. The endorphins and adrenaline temporarily masked my fever and I felt great.
Instead of going out like she wanted to that night, we stayed in and had sex three more times, partly because it was this new and great thing, but mostly because it was the only thing that was making helping the symptoms of my fever go away. I was no longer a virgin, and my reward was getting to meet Kate’s mom for the first time the next morning and helping them lug her new Queen sized mattress up to her apartment. While the manual labor didn’t do anything to help my sickness, we had luckily found a temporary cure and had a new Queen sized mattress to practice on that night.
