Let's add this fact to the list of things we already knew, but that science just proved conclusively: lube makes sex better. All the time. Not just when you're really not that into it, but you kind of want to anyway, so you need a little "help." This very scientific study proves that most women using lubricant did so not only to reduce "tearing" (ew), but, over one-third of the time, simply because to use and apply the lube was "fun." I'm not really sure why science decided to investigate this intuitive, non-pressing sexual matter, but I'm glad they did. Now I can use scholarly evidence to convince my partner to spring for the good stuff.

And, in case you were wondering, the lubricants used in the study (both water and silicon-based), in alphabetical order, were: Astroglide® (Biolm, Inc.), Just Like Me® (Pure Romance), K-Y Liquid® (Johnson & Johnson), Sweet Seduction® (Pure Romance), T Pure Pleasure® (Pure Romance), and Wet Platinum® (Trigg Laboratories). Now for a bit of public service: if, like me, you grew up in Georgia, where sex education is largely abstinence-based, I have a little advice for you. Never use Vaseline as lube when you're using a condom. It will break.

If I may do a little advertising...Slippery Stuff is awesome. Water based, odorless, basically tasteless (taste-free?), big bottles and has a pump top so one hand is all that's needed...Yet I never meet any else who has used it. Just sayin'.

I'm actually a little surprised. I HATE lube. I use it when I have to (see: anal sex and ultra-quickies), but I still think it's awful. Since it's made to not dry up, it seems to hang around forever, necessitating immediate showers and washing of sheets. Not to mention I just don't want my private parts to smell like plastic or kiwis.

I know too many girls who get defensive when you suggest lube. They think that girls who use lube are sexually deficient. Know some guys who feel threatened by lube too, thinking only girls who's sex partners couldn't turn them on enough needed it.
It's so retarded I can't stand it. I'm a huge lube advocate. It makes everything easier and more pleasant. However, I abandoned drugstore lubes because I hated them and switched to JO H2O which I pay more than I'd like in sex stores. However, it's more than worth it. It doesn't stain the sheets and it washes off easily. I also just discovered that spraying a little water on lubed areas mid-fun makes it even better, because skin absorbs the water in the lube over time.
I really want to try oil-based lubes for shower sex. (never use with condoms, people)

While I've always been theoretically in favor of lube, having to stop in the middle of sex to drag it out from the bottom of sock drawers (my girlfriends have always seemed to feel the need to hide those thins, even in their own rooms) does harm the moment. Or maybe I just don't know any girls who treat lube applications as something fun rather than clinical.

@gdanon, put it on while things are heating up instead of mid-sex. Stroking each other all lubed up is great, and then you have the bottle out and handy if you need it later.

To each his own - my wife prefers it when penetration takes a little extra work (even when its of the anal variety unless she really wants a hard pounding). I'm pretty sure she would feel cheated if everything was sliding around like greased pigs in a bowling alley.
