Looks like Brett Favre will be getting off easy for his role in the penis-picture scandal of the year. His superiors (in rank, if not age) at the NFL are fining Favre a (relatively) mere $50,000 "for not fully cooperating in its investigation into lewd text messages and graphic photos he allegedly sent to Jenn Sterger."

But Sterger thinks that a forty-something who sends coworkers pictures of his penis deserves further punishment. Her lawyer released a statement which said that,

"Today’s decision is an affront to all females and shows once again that, despite tough talk, the NFL remains the good old boys’ league."

Sterger and her lawyer "strongly disagree" with the NFL claim that there was "insufficient evidence" of Favre's involvement in the scandal. Frankly, anyone who knows how to spell "Deadspin" would have to strongly agree with her party, and most have called for the quarterback to be at least suspended.

Let this be a lesson to superstar jocks everywhere: you never have to grow up if you don't want to.

I have to disagree. First, there's no evidence that it's his penis. Yes I believe he sent the voicemails but there's no evidence that he did in fact send the peen shots. Second, I highly doubt Ms. Sterger is completely innocent in the whole matter. If she was, she would've came out with this two years ago. She wanted money and she wanted fame. That's the only reason she came out when she did. Third, suspend him for what? The last game of the season, where he's probably going to be on the sidelines anyhow due to injury?

How do you suspend a player who's (likely) injured for the rest of the year and on the verge of retiring?

I think this was the opposite of sexual harassment. Sending a pic of a softy is telling a lady, "hey, this is how much you turn me on."

@Sarah: It doesn’t matter who the penis belongs to, it just matters that he sent the pics (which they can confirm with the phone company) and she didn’t want them. As to why a woman wouldn’t publicly accuse a person of sexual harassment, our society often blames the victim and very few women want to deal with evidence-gathering, the accusations of the defense, etc. The fact that such a high-profile celebrity harassed her only multiplies the backlash she’ll get, as you demonstrated nicely.

@Stephen, it would seem to me that it would be harder to "gather evidence" two years later. And honestly, other than the peen shots (which I agree are inappropriate to send) I don't see how she was harassed. The voicemails I heard were rather tame. I have trouble believing anyone when they come out with allegations years after an incident and when they benefit so much from the allegations, I have an even harder time believing it. Now, if she was indeed harassed, then I apologize but it justs seems rather fishy to me because of her timing. I've never doubted anyone else's stories about celebs or athletes misconduct because those stories have come out right after the incident. No one saves voicemails for two years unless they are waiting for the perfect opportunity to use them.

to add to my previous, if she had said something two years ago, I would've been right there with majority that think Brett should've been punished more. I don't think just because someone has "celeb status" that they deserve special treatment and althetes are no exception.

After seeing that picture, I'll be sending some pix her way too.
