Do you ever feel like things are going so well in your life that you just want to eat Big Macs until it hurts, sleep all day, and miss work? Well, friends, that's called self-sabotage. And Jeff Bridges is apparently down with it. Coming off True Grit and Crazy Heart (and, okay, Tron), Bridges' next project has been announced, a movie called R.I.P.D. What, you ask, is this? Good question. According to The Huffington Post, it's a movie adaptation of a graphic novel by Peter Lenkov:

"R.I.P.D." features the story of a police officer, who, slain in the prime of his career, is recruited to join the Rest In Police Department, the ghost world police force. He signs up for 100 years duty in exchange for the chance to find his killer. Bridges would play his ghost police partner, an old pro who's been on the beat since the 1800's.

What's the matter, was Nic Cage busy? The only thing that's funnier than that write up is that Zach Galifianakis was going to play Bridges' part before he dropped out. Ghost cops. Ghost cops!

You mean "cop ghost." A ghost cop is a ghost who becomes a cop, whereas a cop ghost is a cop who becomes a ghost.

It's really more of a "ghost cop ghost" situation, wherein a cop dies, becomes a ghost, and then becomes a cop again as a ghost.

Are you off your rocker? This reeks of comedy gold.

And, if anything, being in Tron proved that Bridges couldn't sabotage himself or his career if he tried.

..::bEEp::..

Lina, you seem surprised to find that he's agreed to take on this movie. Have you not seen anything he's done before Tron, True Grit, Crazy Heart, or the Big Lebowski? Buy one of the trade paperbacks for R.I.P.D. (or Rex Mundi, or Whiteout, or Transmetropolitan, or Y: The Last Man, etc...) and see for yourself why people take comics seriously. You can bet that I won't be calling the compilations "Graphic Novels" anytime soon, but other peoeples' willingness to do just that highlights the upturn in the quality of art and storyline both.

The only way he could possibly pick a worse role would be if he were to try to play something more ridiculous, say, a bowling stoner caught up in some noirish plot involving a rich cripple's trophy wife and random Nihlists.
Don't underestimate the power of Bridges.
