If you don't follow golf closely — and, just being realistic, you probably don't if you're under forty-five — you may have missed the story about the man, Brandon Kelly, who threw a hotdog (with bun) at Tiger Woods over the weekend, just as Tiger was about to make a put at the Frys.com Open. The food item hit neither the golfer nor the golf ball, and Kelly was taken to the ground pretty quickly. The obvious question is: why? Did he harbor some sort of resentment towards Woods for the sports star's serial cheating? Was he angry that the phenom has seemingly lost his mojo since the scandal broke? Was he just a little insane?

Maybe that last one! But his stated reason is just too good to ignore:

“I threw the hot dog toward Tiger Woods because I was inspired by the movie ‘Drive,'" Kelly said. “As soon as the movie ended, I thought to myself, ‘I have to do something courageous and epic. I have to throw a hot dog on the green in front of Tiger.'” Kelly declined to elaborate on his motivation and said he had initially hoped to remain anonymous.

Wow, that is perfect. (And it reminds me of the time I decided to shave off one of Cate Blanchett's eyebrows after watching Short Circuit.) I mean, I know when I — spoilers here, so stop reading if you haven't seen it — watched Ryan Gosling literally kick a man's face into jelly, my first thought was definitely, "Hot dogs!"

Of the many elements of this ridiculous story, what's best here? Kelly's definition of "epic"? His hope to somehow remain anonymous?(Perhaps with the non-mask he had on?) I can't say for sure, really. All I know is that I can't stop giggling.

Here, for your viewing befuddlement, is the incident in question:
