Watch Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis in political ads for "The Campaign"

Jay Roach, director of Meet the Parents and Game Change, has combined comedy and politics in his new movie The Campaign, starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as rival North Carolina candidates for Congress. As part of a viral marketing strategy, Warner Brothers has created Facebook pages where you can vote for either candidate, and dueling mock-political ads have been released as well. 

The film features Ferrell as incumbent Cam Brady, an overly-polished pol prone to verbal gaffes, appearing to be a hybrid of John Edwards (note the Ken-doll haircut) and George W. Bush, while Galifianakis' naive, bumbling Marty Huggins is the director of the local Tourism Center, set up by a couple wealthy backers to take on Brady. Judging by Ferrell's Brady ad, we can expect plenty of ad hominem attacks, as when Huggins' Ron Swanson-esque (or Ron Burgundy-esque) mustache is called out for its negative associations.

Set for a timely August 10 release a few months before the real presidential election, The Campaign, in satirizing empty political suits fresh off the ridiculous Republican primaries, could feel almost redundant. Still, you can't get much better than the two leads when it comes to vapid, straight-faced hilarity. The film also stars Jason Sudeikis, Dylan McDermott, John Lithgow, Dan Aykroyd, and Brian Cox.
