Thanks to Anthony Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential and Gordon Ramsay's televised tantrums , it is now acceptable for people in the food services industry to earn "bad boy" cred by behaving like total assholes. The PR whizzes at the Chops & Hops steakhouse in Watkinsville, GA, are the latest to embrace this trend by dedicating their "black and bleu" steak sandwich (above, from the restaurant's Facebook page) to Chris Brown and Rihanna. I smell a James Beard award!
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the sandwich was inspired by Brown's highly-publicized physical assault on Rihanna in 2009. To promote the new addition to the menu, Chops & Hops cleverly tweeted: "@chrisbrown,@rihanna and us teamed up for a award winning celebrity sandwich.ChrisBrown won't beat you up for eating this unless you name starts with a R and ends with A."
To the restaurant's credit, they yanked the item from their menu after receiving complaints from customers on Twitter, issuing an apology and promising to donate the proceeds from the sandwich's sale to a local domestic-violence prevention group shortly thereafter. But the saddest part about this whole thing is not that someone thought it was a good idea to make light of domestic violence, but that as a result of this person's insensitivity, the good citizens of Watkinsville, GA will be forever deprived of what sounds like an absolutely delicious sandwich. I don't know what the hell silver Lamborghini onions are, but I do know I want them in my mouth right now.
