Bill O'Reilly wants you to spend his money, just not on muffins
By Carlos CabreraSeptember 29th, 2011, 1:00 pmComments (11)Bill O'Reilly made another appearance on last night's Daily Show, plugging his latest book, Killing Lincoln. As always, he and Jon Stewart squared off against each other in their own unique fashion, stopping only to sling the occasional empty threat or insult (mostly the latter).
The first half saw Stewart argue over "the poor, poor rich, and wealthy" and their desire to not pay higher taxes, to which O'Reilly responded that he'd gladly pay more, as long as they would stop wasting the cash on ventures like Solyndra, the failed alternative-energy concern, and a "scandal" involving $16 muffins purchased for a federal-government conference. He concluded his argument by yelling "I paid for the muffin!"
The un-televised half of their encounter has O'Reilly calling for a "small consumption" tax on luxury items in order to force "renegade cocaine dealers" to contribute to the national debt. O'Reilly then jaws about how he's now paying more than ever in taxes, giving no reason to raise government tax revenue to Clinton-era standards.
Stewart's reply? "We shouldn't act like returning to the tax rate of the '90s is class warfare on par with Lenin and Marx!" In the end, the only concession O'Reilly made was that he'd welcome those higher tax rates only after a ten-percent spending cut "across the board."
...and of course, let's not forget the muffins.

O'Reilly is a complete tool, but it is certainly true that we could all pay less taxes, rich and poor alike, if the gub'mint didn't piss away money like a drunkard at a beer festival. Just like the healthcare debate, we continue to argue --without any resolution ---about the effects of the problem while ignoring the causes.
Hey, at least you and I can agree on something.

Well put, Julian

I really love it whenever O'Reilly is on. He's a pinhead, but the banter between them is way too entertaining to miss. The two of them are almost cute.
I always love O'Reilly and Stewart segments. I could probably watch a whole show of it.
There were no $16 muffins to begin with.
I heard about that recently too.
