Barbie Will Be A Computer Engineer
By Ben KharakhFebruary 16th, 2010, 5:56 pmComments (2)In the midst of the Great Recession, everyone's favorite little plastic lady - sorry, Heidi - just got a new job. Mattel has just announced that Barbie's new career has been chosen: she's going to be a computer engineer [Clicking this link leads to violent, perhaps harmfully intense fuschia. - Ed.]
Considering that her career history has been almost as varied as Homer Simpson's, it's a pretty reasonable choice. Let's face it: being a paratrooper is potentially hazardous to one's health, it costs too much to be a doctor or scientist, and (so far) only men get to be president.
This is pretty progressive for Mattel. They really hopped onto the cultural zeitgeist only a few years late with the whole computer thing, and it's great to see Barbie with a relevant and skilled job. Also, Barbie's career campaign was packaged with a petition asking the Obama administration to take women into consideration when legislating.
Basically, Barbie has become a great role-model for young girls - oh, wait, except that she's still an anorexic Amazon of a woman with feet that are useless when she's not wearing heels and no belly button...

I want to see Barbie's next job as a bomb defuser.
Yes, Dan, and it should come with a fuschia hurt locker!
