You thought he was just a comedian, but he's also, apparently, an art student who realized his senior project was due the next day. In an interview with Playboy, Brand explained his motivation thus:
If I remember correctly, I chose the Barbie doll because it represents the oppression of women, the stereotype of femininity, the commercialization of sexuality, blah blah blah. But what I learned from the experience, at least in hindsight, is that if you're going to make a satirical point involving putting things in your rectum, be selective. Don't take requests from the audience. I ultimately went with a Barbie doll because of the shape. It goes in easier, if you know what I mean.
I think ending your statement of purpose with "blah blah blah" is really just a fantastic rhetorical strategy and I'm surprised more people don't use it in, like, presidential debates and stuff. That being said, if you're going to cultivate a persona of "he's so crazy!", which Brand clearly has, the least you can do is really live it, you know? So I guess props to him for that. Keep those dolls in your rectum, good sir.
