We're very sad to inform you that as of March 1, 2002, Hooksexup no longer offers a chat service. We know how much you'll miss Hooksexup Chat here are a few answers to questions we think you might have.

Q: Why did you get rid of Hooksexup Chat?

A: In order to keep Hooksexup alive, we need to focus our energies (financial, technical, customer service, etc.) on our core products, i.e. the online magazine and the personals.

Q: Why keep Hooksexup Boards then?

A: The Boards cost virtually nothing to maintain, whereas chat was fairly expensive to host.

Q: Didn't chat indirectly contribute to revenue by bringing people back to the site every day and sending them into Personals and the magazine?

A: To some extent, yes. But we want all of our services to be the best they can be, and we didn't have the time, money or customer service power to properly support chat. Rather than spread our energies too thinly over a large number of services that all support the personals and the magazine in small ways (like the homepages and free email that we already closed), we'd rather be more focused on making those two products the best on the Web.

Q: How will I stay in touch with all my friends from Hooksexup Chat?

A: We've created a special folder of Hooksexup Message Boards called "Chat" in there you'll find a number of discussion areas so you can let each other know where you're chatting these days, etc.

In addition, a fab member by the name of Cos (we're sure you know him) has set up a Hooksexup IRC channel. Details on how to access this can be found in the "Hooksexup IRC" discussion in the "Chat" folder of Hooksexup Message Boards.

Q: What about if we paid for Hooksexup Chat, would you bring it back then?

A: We did think about this. The thing is, some existing chat members would probably pay to use Hooksexup Chat, but new members wouldn't (why would they, when chat is free everywhere else?) so fairly soon the service would stagnate. The revolving door is key to chat's success.

Q: What about Lisa Carver's weekly chat?

A: Lisa will continue to be a very regular contributer to Hooksexup magazine, and as you probably know if you're a Lisa-phile, she's also a very active participant in the feedback area of her articles. If you'd like to tell her you miss her chats, you can reach her at .

Q: Don't you guys care about your long-time loyal Hooksexup chatters who've been around since the beginning?!

A: Of course we do! But we hope you'll agree that the most important thing is to keep Hooksexup alive and kicking (and kicking butt). Our personals and the magazine are here to stay, thanks in large part to loyal members like you, who have hung on for the sometimes-bumpy ride.
