Prepare for what might be the ultimate examination of sexuality.
You may be familiar with director Lars von Trier. He's known as a provocateur, both for his real life commentary (in 2011 he admitted to journalists that he "understood Hitler”) and movies like Melancholia, with Kiki Dunst at the end of the world; Dancer in the Dark, starring Bjork as a suicidal blind woman; Dogville, which boiled down to a Nicole Kidman torture film; and Antichrist, the story of two horny adults who end up being overtaken by evil and crushing their – well let's not go there.
Beyond the headline-grabbing details, Von Trier is a masterful filmmaker who explores themes few would dare to even speak aloud. His new film Nymphomaniac will likely take the same path as his past work, ripping apart the sexual instincts intertwined with human nature and presenting it on screen in all its orgasmic glory. Actually, we know that's what he plans on doing because the first trailer has arrived online and it's really, really, really, really, really, really NSFW. Nymphomaniac, which von Trier will release as two separate films, is a sexual odyssey chronicling the life of one woman, Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg), as she blossoms from a curious teenage into a rapid adult. Shia LaBeouf plays Jerôme, a British gent who takes a liking to Joe early in her life. For anyone who has seen LaBeouf's recent foray into Icelandic music videos knows that guy likes to get naked and dabble in perversion. He'll most certainly be seen consummating the relationship with Young Joe.
Prepare for what might be the ultimate examination of sexuality. Because like Uma Thurman, everyone owns a “whoring bed,” right?
