Reader Feedback on "Cute Band Alert"
Thanks for this article. For better or worse, Sassy was the only one of its kind and was a huge influence.

I know your article is specifically about music, but I just have to put in a word for what an incredibly wonderful magazine Sassy was as a whole. It deliberately made fun of advice from other teen magazines on how to catch a man (I still remember one memorable article by, probably, Christina in which she had to unlace her Doc boots to "sexily" slide one foot out of her shoe and run it along her leg - one trick suggested by Cosmo or YM). It taught self-reliance and self-respect and - most importantly - that being independent and different was okay. As a lonely, outcast teen, Sassy saved me by letting me know I wasn't the only one who didn't fit the Seventeen profile. Cute Band Alert was great, but it doesn't cover half of what Sassy was really all about. P.S. I still have every single issue I ever received in my 3 or 4 year subscription before it got sold out. I just can't let them go.
