Written about a show that is pure genius by a true genius.

Sarah Heopla ALWAYS has interesting things to say. Been a fan of hers since her Dallas days. I agree with her about the Wire, as usual. Let's not forget Keema--and her scene with her lover from last year (I think it was!). Mucho caliente! And Rhonda and Cedric, not too shabby. I have a bit of a non-sexual man crush on the Bunk! He's actually a nice looking guy. And actually, Chris Partlow, sociopath, is actually very handsome. Too bad we didn't see a bit more of Chris and his people. And I don't think we saw enough of Bunk this year

Discovering "The Wire" a couple of seasons back was a revelation that will end after the airing of the final episode in a few days. I agree that "The Wire" is a work of art that transcends the self-congratulatory cooing of Emmy voters and deserves recognition from a more elevated mindset, such as the Nobel laureate. But, as Dominic West jests on one of this season's behind-the-scenes HBO anecdotes, its the acting and not the writing that makes this a great series.

Dear Ms Hepola, Thank you for giving shape for my feelings in written words.

People that think they are 'above' television are missing out on an entirely new form of entertainment. It is what television should have been all along. I've also noticed that people either get it immediately or they never warm to it. If it were more popular, you would see phrases like, "the Western District Way" diffuse into normal conversations - referring to "worst practices" traditional policing. In contrast to CompStat grafted on to a City whose problems run too deep. Each season keys on a broken institution -- Season 2 the deindustrialization of America via the declining longshoreman's union, Last seasons was the Schools and this season will be print journalism. The old institutions just aren't up to the task. This is in high relief since Baltimore was a wealthy city that has been in decline for decades. The city itself is in decline, and it's institutions are under stress everywhere. The fact that people still care, even though they know it isn't enough, takes it to a new emotional level. I'm not sorry this is the last season. It's time to wrap it up, and greatness isn't a function of seniority. The single best network series, in my opinion, was the 15 episodes of My So Called Life. It is more then that. Give David Simon his due, but I think his world view is too backwards looking. America is robust in a way that Simon simply misses. There are things going on that he simply isn't in touch with. Barry Levonson (Diner, etc.), Simon with Homicide, and the Wire aren't doing Baltimore any favors. It's more and it's less and nostalgia only goes so far. Simon is getting older and is stuck in 1995. I could go on, but this is probably already too much. Last call on wonderful television. Don't miss it.

As someone who has been watching since days one and telling anyone who would listen how great the Wire is, I find myself terribly sad that it's over in a few short weeks. The Sopranos ending was a massive cultural shock, but the Wire is ending just as most people are starting to become aware of it, amazing NPR and New Yorker articles notwithstanding. Tell you what, the Wire is better written than Sports Night, which I feel was the primogenitor to today's smartly-written cable television shows. Sports Night was also the launching pad for many well-knows stars. Nobody, I mean nobody, ever watched that show. Great article, wonder what we'll be talking about next?

Ah yes. There's something about that Omar. Very hot. Smoldering. The fact there is even queer romance in a largely hetero tv show is remarkable. And Kima too! Yikes. Very hot indeed.
