As you've undoubtedly heard, President Obama came out in support of same-sex marriage last week. (Yay! I mean, a little late and also he said it was up to the states to decide, which is silly, but still: yay!) In response, Mitt Romney, the presumed Republican presidential candidate, assured everyone that he was really, really not in favor of two dudes or two ladies getting hitched. He even got a standing ovation for saying so in his commencement speech at Jerry Falwell's super conservative Liberty University.
While the President's announcement may have cost him votes, though it's probably too soon to tell, it certainly hasn't hurt him financially: Obama raised a million dollars in the hour and a half after "evolution." (His stance is now a Charizard.) Romney does not have this problem, however: Bill White, the CEO of consulting firm Constellations Group and a prominent Romney donor, has withdrawn his support and also asked for his cash back due to Romney's same-sex marriage views:
"I feel that I no longer wish to support your presidential campaign and ask that you please return the maximum contribution that I gave to you last year," Bill White wrote in a letter addressed to the former Massachusetts governor and obtained by CNN.
"You have chosen to be on the wrong side of history and I do not support your run for president any longer," White added.
In case you're curious, White is openly gay and married to his partner, who was also a Romney supporter. There's no word yet on whether the Romney campaign will return the donations, but somehow I doubt it. That being said: dude, Romney felt the same way last year when you, you know, gave him all that money. Maybe be a bit more choosey?
