Florida has made its move.
The State Legislature, with the House and Senate both controlled by Republicans, has taken up a measure to ban abortions that directly challenges Roe v. Wade.
Among the usual heinous low points, the bill would:
-make undergoing a pregnancy termination punishable by death… otherwise known as “life in prison”
-not allow abortions in the case of incest and/or rape
-allow emergency rooms to refuse abortion services, and makes no provision for the life of the mother except in cases where two physicians corroborate the assumption that the mother will die if an abortion is not performed… but then where will she get one if it’s illegal? We find it hard to believe two doctors will agree that an abortion is necessary and that they will perform it in all cases where an abortion is necessary.
At the risk of setting off a shitstorm, we have to remind people that it’s statistically proven that making abortions illegal rarely stops anyone from getting an abortion. It just forces them to go the “back alley” route, avoiding doctors and putting the mother at risk for a botched operation that prevents them from ever having children and could even kill them.
