Although Craigslisting your love life isn't my cup of tea, I do commend these peeps for being up-front!

seeing this lively dating scene almost makes me wish I had herpes. almost.

dinosaurs commented on Jan 20 11 at 9:44 am

@me Probably by writing the listing in two sittings and forgetting in the second half that she'd lied about her age in the first half.

One of five people in the total adult/adolescent population has Herpes. One in five. It isn't always tested for in standard STI tests, can be transmitted even when using a condom, and when an outbreak isn't present. Smugly making fun of people who are being open and honest about their status from the start just isn't as funny as gamer sex or casual commuter encounters...and those things aren't even that funny.

Well said, thank you.

Billy Idol and Anne Heche admitted to having it. Robin Williams settled a law suit out of court. Ofcourse there are consistant rumors of many others have it.

It is a fact that you can be safer knowing your partner has it. As said above, standard STD tests do not check for it. Frankly there are a lot worse things to get.

Nobody's making fun of anybody -- at least not intentionally. We're just interested in the whole wide mess of people out there, each looking for something different. That's all.

I know I'm beautiful! But don't hate me because this since I have herpes!!! Also I am an engineer who works for the largest herpes dating and support site PositiveFish. com. I have to tell you a secret, you can choose not to believe me. But the truth is that this site has more than 1,880,000 members and about 80% members are good looking in my estimation.

Unfortunately, STD rates soar worldwide and most people with STDs don't even know that they have them. The government should grant more money for STD education to lower the rates of STD transmission.

stdslove commented on Jan 21 11 at 3:16 am

Good for these people for doing being honest and upfront about their situation, something that someone else wasn't decent enough to do for them, which is probably why they have herpes in the first place.

Ava commented on Jan 21 11 at 1:02 pm

Why should the government put more funding towards STD research? I am not passing judgment on people with STDs, but do not see why the government should pour money into fucking herpes research.

@stdslove commented on Jan 22 11 at 1:43 pm

Don't knock the research money comment. It's a complicated disease that doesn't have effective testing. Even the blood tests, which not all countries have, can't tell you if it is an oral case or genital. You can be asymptomatic and still pass it on. The infection was only passed on to me a full year into a committed relationship, through oral sex, with my first partner. Bad luck, he didn't know he had it, only remembered having a few cold sores when he was a kid.
Consider the kid question too. It's no secret that kids kiss each other, they can pass it on and it can have repercussions for life. When I was diagnosed, I was devastated for many reasons, including a huge hit to my sexual freedom (for which I commend these people for really being so upfront about it) as well as implications about childbirth and childrearing. It is now a requirement that I have a C-section, with warnings that cold sore outbreaks, if they get near the eyes (for example, kissing your newborn on the forehead) could cause blindness. Even if that is a very rare situation, it demonstrates the fear and feelings of a toxic self that persist with this disease. It isn't just an STI.
And Valtrex is not a cheap pill either. Government research could be applied in many avenues, from testing to medication.

Honesty is the best policy. That said, I am glad I'm not in their boat.
