Larry Flynt

Hustler publisher Larry Flynt thinks Wikileaks' Julian Assange is a hero-journalist. And he thinks that if Wikileaks had existed back when George W. Bush was spoiling for war in Iraq, the blood spilled, and dollars spent, would have been greatly diminished.

Flynt coming down on the side of the Wikileaks partisans should come as no surprise if you've seen The People vs. Larry Flynt, which chronicled his free-speech court tussle with Reverend Jerry Falwell. He joins other well-known public supporters of Wikileaks, including Michael Moore, director Kenneth Loach, writer Hanif Kureishi, and Bianca Jagger.

Flynt, who is known to use a gold-plated wheelchair, the result of a shooting incident involving a white supremacist who was infuriated by an interracial photo shoot that appeared in Hustler, is putting his money where his mouth is and donating $50,000 to the Wikileaks defense fund.

The porn poobah is staunch in his approbation for the WikiLeaks chief, the odd details of whose personal life have been leaked along with everything else, including your Aunt Tilly's fruitcake recipe. He writes, "Julian Assange should not face a prison sentence. We should have a ticker-tape parade for this brave man."
