Okay, then! 2011 looks like a solid year without much in the way of controversy or shock. (Which is always fun. Except when Crash wins. Fuck you, Crash.) I'm very happy that Jennifer Lawrence got a nod, as well as Jacki Weaver and Dogtooth, but since the buzz around all of them has been going for a good long time I don't think they're anything other than due. Speaking of, I only feel conflicted by Best Actress — I loved Lawrence's performance but Natalie Portman got ugly-crazy in Black Swan. I am a bit confused why there are only three nominations for Best Animated Feature, in a year of generally strong animated films. (Or so I and my very outspoken three-year-old goddaughter thought.) Oh well.

What do you think, readers?

Although I'm not sure if having ten best picture nominees makes the category seem less important, I am glad it lets them include great animated movies.
