Anderson Cooper vs. Leo Beaman

Is Anderson Cooper the best interviewer in TV news? There's a reason he's on CNN and 60 Minutes and soon getting his own talk show... and it's not the ratings. Cooper is a flawless host, not letting anyone weasel out of a hard question but not taking cheap shots or ever being unfair.

There's nothing I could add to that or to this, a brilliant clip from the other night's 360, during which Texas State Representative Leo Berman (R) does the dumbest thing imaginable: he references a bunch of horseshit he read in chain e-mails. No disrespect, Leo, but the service your country needs you to do now is publicly retract everything, admit today's Republican party could care less about facts, then simply go away.

This is more than 11 minutes long, but it's worth every second:

For their own nefarious reasons, more and more people are willing and even anxious to believe and propagate nonsense that just quite simply isn't true.

In keeping with the spirit of the comment by hm regarting my post on birth control pills, I'm tempted to make some snide remark about Larry King, but then that would obviate the need further typing on my part. How about that, hm? Would you still consider me wildly off-topic? Do you even know what I'm talking about? Do I even know what I'm talking about. hm wants to know, shirley.

I find it particularly amusing that a Tejas State Representative would agree to go on national television and attempt to inform the world that his President is ineligible to hold office. Furthermore, the pandering Andy does to him regarding former military service by him and others is completely irrelevant and unnecessary. To that end, if one wants to join, he joins. If one doesn't, one doesn't. What's the necessity to thank everyone for everything they've ever done in their life? That's what you do to underachievers who get passed from grade to grade, not to adults who make their own way in the world.

you can't indict the entire Republican party because of one dipshit... if that were the case you'd have to toss all the Democrats too, as clearly there is enough dipshittery in politics to go 'round.

Like many people here in Texas, Berman is wildly uninformed and seething, looking for any way to stand against a black Democrat. The fact that no one got half as crazy and upset about the Bush Administration's authorization of illegal wiretaps and torture as they seem to be about ridiculous birth certificate questions completely floors me.

That being said, Anderson Cooper is smart to "pander" as he does; whenever you completely shred these nutball birthers' "evidence," they tend to just begin raising their voices and continue spouting their misinformation, like little kids clasping their hands to their ears. Criticize Anderson Cooper for lots of things, but understand that, until you have tried to hold conversation with people of Berman's ilk, you can't fully appreciate Cooper's skill.
